WWW vs non-WWW

In my quest to learn more about website design. I came across this issue www vs non-www. Is www before a domain name required. The simple answer is No. Does it make a difference if you use it or not? Yes and No. For the average internet user there is No difference.

The difference is when you add www in front of a domain name, it acts as a hostname which can help with flexibility, ability to restrict cookies when using multiple subdomains. Whereas non-www domains also referred as naked domains do not have a technical advantage. The only advantage to non-www is that the web address is shorter.

Search engines do see website address with www and without www as difference address. This can affect searches. It is there for recommended not to change it and to be consistent.

The proper full address for my website is
https://dalejreimer.com
